Joseph at the Wyvern Theatre

By Theresa Hopwood

A cold Thursday night in Swindon was warmed up by a great performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the Wyvern Theatre, the latest in their varied programme.

Located in central Swindon there are plenty of options for eating before the show, including at the theatre, but we opted to call in to the Swindon Designer Outlet centre, housed within the Grade Two Listed building of the former Great Western Railway Works and enjoyed a tasty, and great value “Feel Good dinner” in Giraffe, one of the latest arrivals in the recently opened extension. With shops in the centre open until 8 we even found time for a bit of shopping!

Arriving at the theatre it was clear it was a popular show, with coach parties being dropped off, and busy car parks. This was no amateur production but starred Amelia Lily and Lloyd Daniels of X Factor fame, and Matt Lapinskas from Eastenders and Dancing on Ice. Having seen several other versions of Joseph over the years I was interested to see how this UK tour compared. For those who have never seen it the Tim Rice/Andrew Lloyd Webber show is based on the biblical story of Joseph and his coat of many colours but with many surprises along the ways, including Pharaoh in the guise of Elvis, brilliantly played by Lapinkas. I think this performance as the greatest surprise, he has an incredible voice to add to his ice skating and acting talents! Amelia Lily and Lloyd Daniels both provided powerful performances, superbly supported by a talented group of young children.  The scenery was always colourful, sometimes dramatic, sometimes amusing… look out for the sheep and camels! The audience, which varied in age from very young children to young at heart seniors, were clearly enjoying it and at the end everyone was up, dancing and singing along.

This a true “feel good” production and we found ourselves singing all the way home, a great tonic at the end of a busy week.

Joseph is on at the Wyvern until 23 May, but do look out for their forthcoming programme, other great nights out are in store!

I recently bought the "Tsunami Art - The Great Wave by Katsushika Hokusai" ( https://www.artofthesea.ca/products/tsunami-art ) canvas print from Art of the Sea, and I'm incredibly impressed with it! The artwork beautifully captures the power of the ocean during a tsunami, and the glossy finish enhances the colors and details. The mirrored side-wrapping adds a touch of elegance. It's a captivating addition to any coastal-themed decor. The canvas was delivered "ready to hang" with all necessary accessories. Art of the Sea's collection is fantastic, and this Hokusai masterpiece is a standout. If you admire maritime art, I highly recommend this canvas print for its stunning portrayal of the sea's raw power.
