The Halcyon Spa

By Emma Kirkup

Sometimes work can be really tough… of course I found it a real chore when I was invited along to discover the facilities of the Halcyon Spa within The Bishopstrow Hotel, on the outskirts of Warminster! (Ok, I know – a lot of my friends had serious job envy too after hearing this!)

Driving up to the hotel, I passed pretty displays of daffodils dotting the lawn, brightening up what would otherwise be a rainy March day. Upon arrival at the hotel I was warmly greeted by the hotel staff and offered a warming cuppa in the Library before I headed into the spa to see what they offered.

The spa reception

The sense of calm appeared the moment I walked into the spa reception and all of the staff were friendly and welcoming.

The spa manager ran through some of the products that they use including Elemis skincare and Mii makeup before she took me on a quick whizz around the facilities and into the changing area to get robed up ready to explore more!

My first venture was into the indoor swimming pool, which was beautifully quiet when I arrived, there’s also a Jacuzzi in this area too. If you are feeling brave (especially on a March day) then you can also head to the outdoor pool – but to be honest after getting in the lovely, warm indoor pool I didn’t really fancy going out in the cold again!

After a quick swim I then decided my next step would be into the steam room. I was lucky enough to have the room all to myself and enjoyed relaxing here whilst watching the twinkly colour-changing ceiling lights. Next up for me was the Monsoon Shower which was an experience (although not so relaxing when one of the choices I selected involved cold water – I’m definitely a warm-blooded person!). After the chilly finish there I warmed up in the sauna… bliss.

There is a choice of treatments available at the spa and also a Rasul mud therapy room – apparently this involves being covered in mud… sounds like fun! I didn’t have time for a treatment on this visit but I’ll certainly consider coming here for a girly day out soon.
