Dog friendly

A guest blog by The Bath Arms

The Great British spring time has finally arrived; packed with refreshing blue skies, glowing green grass and mild temperatures. All in all, an ideal time of year to get out the house and explore Wiltshire. If you’re a dog owner, it can often be tough planning a day out where you and your canine counterpart will be accepted as one. However, one county which is becoming renowned for being ‘dog friendly’ is Wiltshire; from striking scenic walks and splendid spring fare to cultivating cultural landmarks, all can be undertaken with your furry friend. Here are a few of our favourites:

Sleeping

Finding somewhere to get your head down is often a little more challenging when venturing out of the house with your pet in tow. But thankfully Wiltshire is the home of the animal lover with two venues offering accommodation in Wiltshire for you and your pet. From luxury accommodation at The Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa on the outskirts of Warminster, to more home-from-home country pub accommodation at The Bath Arms which is located next to Longleat.

Walking

Westbury White Horse walk is a favourite for trekkers who like letting their dog off the lead. Made up of field paths and down-land tracks, this exploration is a whirlwind of beautiful scenic views and tranquil countryside. On the other hand, if you fancy a slightly shorter breathe of fresh air; why not take a farmland stroll around a beautiful 15th-century moated manor house in Holt.

Eating

The smell of the fresh country air and a calorie crunching trek will sure take its toll on one’s appetite. Thankfully if you’re looking for dog-friendly pubs, Wiltshire has plenty to offer, from a hearty Sunday roasting pot at The Bath Arms to some sophisticated fine dining at The Mulberry restaurant Wiltshire.

Culture

A trip to Wiltshire wouldn’t be complete without a visit to some of its cultural landmarks. Some of the more ‘dog friendly’ attractions include a walk around West Kennet Avenue in Avebury. This consists of 100 pairs of monumental prehistoric stones believed to have had religious significance (but we don’t want to give away too much).

Alternatively, why not drop by Ludgershall Castle and Cross. Originally a hunting lodge for Henry lll, Ludgershall Castle is an ancient piece of 11th Century architecture and not only full of interesting history but also surrounded by plenty of radiant lawns to make your pooch feel at home.
