Queen Elizabeth II: Life, Legacy & Service to Britain
Each summer, The Sir Edward Heath annual lecture – organised by The Sir Edward Heath Charitable Foundation – looks at an issue spanning the post-war period in Britain or the wider world, offering a lively platform for a public conversation in the spectacular setting of Salisbury Cathedral.
Moderated by Gyles Brandreth, this year’s lecture will honour the remarkable life of our late Queen, HM Elizabeth II, featuring a line-up of world-class speakers to discuss a 70-year reign that offers a unique window on modern Britain and its place in the world.
Our panel of world-class speakers includes:
Gyles Brandreth – television personality and author of ‘Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait’. Gyles will introduce and moderate the event.
Angela Rippon – Renowned broadcaster who has covered royal events for half a century.
Ailsa Anderson – served as press secretary to the Queen for twelve years from 2001 to 2013.
Robert Hardman – Daily Mail writer and author of the biographies ‘Queen of Our Times’ and ‘Charles III’.
Hugo Vickers – royal commentator and author of ‘Coronation’ (on the 1953 Coronation) and ‘Elizabeth: The Queen Mother’.
The speakers will give their personal appreciation of the Queen, both as an individual and as our national leader, and assess the challenges, achievements and legacy of her reign, as well as exploring her constitutional role in Britain and the Commonwealth, and the future of the monarchy.

The drinks reception at Arundells offers an opportunity to socialise and to meet the speakers after the lecture.
Practical Arrangements
On arrival, please enter the Cathedral via the Cloisters entrance (on the west front) and have your ticket or barcode ready to present to our welcome team.
The drinks reception will be held at Arundells, and will run from 4.30 pm until 5.45 pm, after which the house and garden will close for a separate event.
Arundells is located just across from the Cathedral on the West Walk of the Close. There will be stewards on hand to direct you.
Parking
Although there is no parking available at Arundells, there should be limited parking in the Close car park on a first come first saved basis, at a cost of £8 a day. Parking can be purchased as you enter the Close, via the High Street gate. In addition, city-centre car parks are just a short walk away.

Background
Gyles Brandreth is Honorary Chairman of the Sir Edward Heath Charitable Foundation. He is a noted broadcaster and writer, who has published more than 30 books, and was Conservative MP for Chester from 1992 to 1997.
The Edward Heath annual lecture series, now in its seventh iteration, is the focal-point of the national and local speaker programme of the Sir Edward Heath Charitable Foundation. Previous lecturers have included David Dimbleby, John Major, Robin Butler and Kenneth Clarke.
Sir Edward Heath Charitable Foundation owns ‘Arundells’, the beautiful house and garden where Sir Edward lived from 1985 to 2005. Over the last twelve years, Arundells has received over 100,000 visitors and become a popular tourist destination in the Cathedral Close.
