English Heritage has Easter cracked with eggciting trail

13th March 2013

Categories: News

There’s more than just eggs to crack this Easter, as Old Sarum and Old Wardour Castle throw open their doors for their traditional Easter Family Fun Trails from Saturday 23 March to Sunday 7 April.

At Old Sarum, nature lovers will be in their element as they take part in a trail looking for insects and birds that live in the grounds of the magnificent English Heritage property. There is also an egg-citing Easter egg trail for little ones and a mask making workshop over the Bank Holiday weekend, where children can make a magical disguise to take away.

Meanwhile, sweet-toothed visitors to Old Wardour Castle are invited to tour the grounds of the 14th century castle in search of missing wooden Easter eggs, to decipher the mystery word and claim their chocolate reward.  Egg-hunters will need to answer a series of fun history questions about Old Wardour to complete the Easter trail and claim their prize.

Naomi Matthews, English Heritage Property Manager at Old Sarum, said: “Our Easter Family Fun Trails are always really popular with families, as it’s a great chance for everyone to get outdoors in the spring fresh air and engage in a little bit of light-hearted competition.”

“The kids also get to burn off some of that excess energy while learning interesting facts about England’s history,” added Greg Bastin, Site Manager at Old Wardour Castle.  “Easter is a traditional time to take part in a treasure hunt and what better place than in the picturesque surroundings of such historic properties.”
