Salisbury > Salisbury and Stonehenge - where to stay > Foley's Cottage
Graded 4 stars by Visit Britain (Gold Award for exceptional quality of accommodation), Foley’s Cottage is tucked away behind mature hedges and approached via a wooden footbridge over a small winter bourne (part-time stream). This is the archetypal ‘chocolate box’ thatched cottage, its instant visual appeal being amply justified both inside the house and in the delightful garden.
Situated in the Wylye Valley, Foley’s Cottage is ideally located for exploring this beautiful area, steeped in history and full of magnificent landscapes and magical places to visit. Walkers, riders and cyclists are particularly well served by the multitude of footpaths, bridle and cycleways in this part of South Wiltshire and there is direct access onto the Wessex Ridgeway, which runs along the western boundary of the cottage.
For those wishing to relax at home, Foley’s Cottage could hardly be bettered. French windows from the upper floor bedroom lead straight to an idyllic terrace, and well-kept and colourful gardens rise behind the house. A stroll to the top of the grounds is rewarded by sweeping views of the surrounding downs; whilst the well-appointed Summerhouse in the orchard provides a wonderfully peaceful haven for relaxing after a day’s activities in this exceptional area – perhaps before an excursion to the famous Dove Inn and restaurant just below.
