Salisbury > Salisbury and Stonehenge - where to stay > The Hayloft, Ebblesway Courtyarddge
Ebblesway Courtyard is situated in the unspoilt Chalke Valley in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The valley is renowned for its panoramic views, chalk stream, footpaths and village pubs. Although in a peaceful rural location, the courtyard is only a 7 mile easy drive from the historic Cathedral city of Salisbury, 90 minutes from London & Heathrow Airport and 50 minutes from the Jurassic Dorset Coast.
The courtyard itself is an award-winning conversion of the outbuildings of a large farm built of brick, flint and greenstone in the 1850 by the Earl of Pembroke of nearby Wilton House. The property is now also run as a smallholding with donkeys, horses, chickens and occasionally sheep and cattle. Peter has a workshop where he makes harpsichords and Gail has a treatment room where she offers back, neck & shoulder massage and Ayurvedic natural facial rejuvenation massage for women.
The area is ideal for walking, cycling (bike hire is available on site), horse riding and touring. Salisbury Racecourse and Gurston Down Hillclimb are only 4-5 minutes’ drive away. Ebblesway Courtyard is also an excellent base for exploring the past. Stonehenge and Old Sarum are just 15-20 minutes away and the stone circled village of Avebury, with nearby Silbury Hill and Kennet Long Barrow, 45 minutes. The area is also famous for its fascinating pictures carved in the white chalk hillsides and enigmatic crop circles.
Of more ‘recent’ historic interest is nearby Wilton House (just 7 minutes), Longleat House & Safari Park etc. (45 minutes), Beaulieu with its national Car Museum (1 hour), Stourhead, which has one of the most spectacular landscaped gardens in England (45 minutes), William the Conqueror’s ‘New’ Forest (25 minutes), The Roman/Georgian city of Bath (1 hour) and Thomas Hardy’s Wessex (25 minutes).
