Day One

Morning - Visit Lydiard House and Park, a Georgian jewel which retains the grand design of its 18th-century heyday, then head for the rose and herb filled Abbey House Gardens, next to a 12th-century Benedictine abbey. Its 2,000 different roses represent Britain's largest private collection.

Lunch - Malmesbury

Afternoon - Master landscaper 'Capability' Brown's woodlands and gently sloping lawns at Bowood House are stunning, not to mention the fine architecture and splendid interiors.

Overnight - Bradford on Avon

Day Two

Morning - Explore Longleat, the magnificent home of the 7th Marquess of Bath, widely regarded as one of the best examples of High Elizabethan architecture in Britain. Stourhead is just a short drive away, a breathtaking 18th-century landscaped garden, with classic vistas across the lake to the Pantheon and Temple of Apollo.

Lunch - Mere

Afternoon - Visit Wilton House, home to the 18th Earl of Pembroke, with water and rose gardens beside the River Nadder and Palladian Bridge. The magnificent Inigo Jones Staterooms include the famous Double Cube Room.
