Jane Fry, Manager of the Salisbury Tourist Information Centre in Fish Row, has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's birthday honours.
Jane (39) was awarded the MBE for services to tourism in the south west. She has worked at the TIC for 18 years having originally been employed for three months as a temporary summer seasonal information assistant. Shortly after, the post of TIC manager became available and Jane was appointed.
Under her leadership, the TIC has become established as one of the leading information centres in the region winning the TIC of the Year for the South West region every time they have entered.
This led to winning the national Gold Award twice in the Excellence in England Awards in the TIC of the Year category and also a Silver Award. They also achieved South West Tourism's Gold Award for Customer Service 2006-2007, as part of a Mystery Shopper scheme.
When not winning awards, Jane has been both a regional and national awards judge and has represented TICs regionally and nationally in a number of forums.
Commenting on her MBE, Jane said; "I consider myself so lucky to have the support of such a professional and loyal team at Salisbury TIC, which I never take for granted.
"I am so fortunate to enjoy my job, and to be able to have the freedom, with the enthusiasm from the staff, to continue to develop the huge range of services the TIC offers to local residents and visitors to the City, whilst offering outstanding customer service"
"I'm constantly looking to improve the standards, service, and awareness of Tourist Information Centres and always welcome the opportunity to show staff from other TICs around the Salisbury office, and share best practice. It would be nice to think that I had helped to raise standards and awareness generally.
"To receive the honour of an MBE is just unbelievable. I am so thrilled, and will really be accepting it on behalf of the whole team who I am so very proud of."
Graham Gould, who was for several years Head of Marketing, Economic Development and Tourism at Salisbury District Council, said; "This award is very well deserved.
"Jane has always been at the forefront of any new initiatives and developments that have earned her the respect of her staff, her colleagues in the district council and the private sector.
"As well as responding to the needs of visitors to the city, Jane encourages local residents to use the services of the TIC and she has led the drive to introduce more services relevant to local people."
Malcolm Bell, Chief Executive of South West Tourism, said; "Jane fully deserves this honour as she has consistently exceeded the standards for tourism information services and has been nationally recognised on more than one occasion.
"The honour reflects on her commitment and professionalism, but also that of her team at Salisbury TIC, and is a real credit to tourism, the south west and the national tourism information service."
The Tourist Information Centre is situated at the rear of the Guildhall in Fish Row, and is open seven days a week during the summer.
Since launching the TIC as Salisbury's Central Box office this year, and most recently introducing the sale of rail tickets Salisbury Tourist Information Centre is just going from strength to strength.
