New look Salisbury guides break with tradition

7 March 2008

Jenny Butler Salisbury Tourism Marketing ManagerSalisbury could soon receive a boost in visitors thanks to publications published by Salisbury and Stonehenge Tourism Partnership this year.

A new look Visitor Guide, a suite of Mini Guides in English and eight foreign languages, and a Groups' Guide will highlight the attractions of the Cathedral city and surrounding countryside of south Wiltshire.

The family of brochures - highlighted this week at the British Travel Trade Fair at the NEC in Birmingham as part of British Tourism Week - have been given a new look to reflect the range and quality of attractions and accommodation on offer in the district.

With fresh photography and a contemporary design, the guides aim to attract a greater number of higher spending visitors to the area.

Salisbury Tourism Manager Bryn Jones says, "The 2008 Visitor Guide is the main publication we use as part of our marketing campaign, and this year it is bigger and better than ever before, with a fold-out map, new design and clearer layout. The branding on the guide also reflects our work with our partners in other areas of Wiltshire."

"There is a greater emphasis on sustainable tourism with new symbols and public transport information for attractions. The Mini Guide which highlights attractions has been published in Polish for the first time this year and the Groups' Guide has updated events and itineraries."

Salisbury could be scheduled to receive a record number of visitors as the Cathedral celebrates 750 years since its dedication and Arundells , the former home of Sir Edward Heath, opens to the public.

Mary Webb, Chair of the Salisbury and Stonehenge Tourism Partnership says, "These new publications and associated marketing campaigns show how by working together our members in Salisbury and south Wiltshire can really compete with other short break destinations in Britain and overseas."

"Tourism brings much needed money into the economy of the district and with some three hundred members our tourism partnership shows the benefit of co-operation locally, with our Wiltshire partners, and on a regional basis in the south west."

"The strong relationship between Salisbury District Council and the local tourism industry through the Salisbury and Stonehenge Tourism Partnership is of major benefit in working together to market and promote Salisbury and south Wiltshire as a major destination for both domestic and overseas visitors."
