Beech Tree Barn is located in the village of Coulston; it is on the edge of Salisbury Plain between Devizes and Westbury. To the South the land rises dramatically up to the higher reaches of Salisbury Plain, to the North, the land gently slopes away for a number of miles out to the villages of Marston, Seend and beyond. The village of Erlestoke lies to the East and Edington to the South West. Coulston is a very traditional historic English village – the village church has 12th Century Norman origins and is in a beautiful setting with Salisbury Plain as a backdrop. Beech Tree Barn is situated on the edge of bluebell supporting woodland with great views over surrounding farmland and surrounded by local wildlife.
Beech Tree Barn was formally the Coulston village cricket pavilion and has been sympathetically restored and now offers unique accommodation for the visitor. The accommodation is self contained. It is on all on one level and we offer a super king sized bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and lounge. There is a large lockable storage facility for cycles, wheelchairs and other bulky equipment. At one end of the barn there is a substantial log store. The accommodation is flexible and we can make it suit diverse requirements. We are pleased to be child friendly – so if you need a cot and high chair then let us know – and of course, food warming, cold storage and facilities for food preparation are already provided.
Beech Tree Barn has been designed to ensure you remain comfortable with the space and privacy you need. We offer hamper style bed and breakfast at a time to suit our guests – we are well aware that walkers and cyclists may want an early start and may want to take breakfast with them and we are also aware that some guests just want a lazy breakfast in bed at a time to suit themselves. Where possible all food is local and many breakfast products are from our own smallholding – we have a varied hot and cold menu – but must add there is nothing like a freshly laid egg at breakfast time!
Guests are free to use the kitchen for preparation of their own food and snacks, and if required, we can have a slow cooked evening meal ready in the barn if our guests are not sure when they will be arriving or returning after a long day exploring the area. We work with a contemporary Baker and have a range of packed lunches available if required, especially prepared to withstand (within reason!) the rigors of being carried within a rucksack or cycle pannier. We live, work and look after our animals in the immediate vicinity so we can generally accommodate any arrangements that our guests need – just give us a call.
Walking is something we do everyday here. Beech Tree Barn is located on the northern edge of Salisbury plain, within a mile of the Wessex Ridgeway, the White Horse Trail and the Imber Range Perimeter path. The Mid Wilts Way passes us to the north west at Steeple Ashton about 5 miles away. The Kennet and Avon canal is some 7 miles away at Seend. We are very happy to drop you off at different points along a walk of your choosing and pick you up at the end of the day and we can help with route planning. We are members of the Ramblers Association and the Long Distance Walkers Association – so if you need information we can probably source it.
There are extensive and challenging cycling routes both on and off road in the area. There are trails on Salisbury Plain that will leave even the most experienced rider exhausted and there are lovely flat rides through the villages and a wealth of country pubs to explore.
For guests looking for more sedate experiences, Wiltshire is home to historic monuments such as Stonehenge, to excellent market towns that still have a unique heart. From stunning buildings, such as the Church of St Mary at Steeple Ashton or the 14th century Edington Priory Church, through to the glorious views from the top of Salisbury Plain itself. Outings as diverse as taking a trip on the canal or to explore Longleat House – there are plenty of choices here!
