Manor Cottage is a gem. Standing by the green, just a stone’s throw from the local pub in the pretty country village of Shalbourne, it is perfectly placed to provide rural peace yet easy access to an historic part of southern England, Winchester, Salisbury, Bath, Oxford and Windsor all being within an hour’s drive.

Closer to Shalbourne are the local market towns of Hungerford and Marlborough, both well known for their antique shops and Newbury, offering a wide range of shops and restaurants. Other visitor attractions include Wilton Windmill & the Crofton Beam Engines, the ancient stone circles of Avebury and Stonehenge, the Kennet & Avon Canal (narrow boat trips) and the ancient Savernake Forest. London is just over an hour by train from Hungerford (4 miles) and junction 14 of the M4 is approx. 7 miles.

Built in 1840, Manor Cottage has been thoughtfully modernised and harmoniously extended so as to provide extremely comfortable and well-equipped accommodation whilst carefully retaining its original character and charm.

Accommodation
Entrance from gravelled parking area along a brick-paved pathway. Sitting room with fireplace containing a woodburning stove. Door through to an extra sitting room with TV and sofa bed for alternative sleeping. Dining room with beamed ceiling and oak gate leg table. 2 steps lead up to a fitted kitchen, which in turn gives access to the garden. Carpeted stairs (NB partly open on one side) lead up to the 1st floor landing. 2 bedrooms – 1 double with a 5ft bed and 1 twin. Bathroom/w.c. with vanity unit and separate shower cubicle.

To one side of the cottage is a secluded garden bordered by yew hedging and an attractive brick and flint wall, a real sun-trap and the perfect spot for a barbecue on a summer evening.
