TOP 10 WAYS TO ENTERTAIN YOUR CHILDREN THIS SUMMER
The summer holidays are fast approaching and if you are wondering what to do with the children then look no further. VisitWiltshire have put together the top ten ways you can entertain your children in Wiltshire this summer.
1. Longleat - A classic visit for a family day out in Wiltshire. The famous Longleat Safari Park celebrates its 50th year anniversary of opening this year with lots of festivities including daily African dancing during the summer holidays.
2. Take part in some hands-on history at Old Sarum - English Heritage will be running some hand-on history events throughout the summer holidays for the children at Old Sarum, on the outskirts of Salisbury.
3. Get arty at Mompesson House and Gardens – To celebrate their new seven days a week for summer opening they will be running family art and print-making activities on various dates over the holidays inspired by the Rena Gardiner exhibition.
4. Climb into the cockpits of a variety of aircraft and don your own flight suit on a visit to Boscombe Down Aviation Collection, just outside Salisbury. Perfect for rainy days!
5. An inspiring day out at Melksham Comic Con which takes place on 27-28 August in Melksham town centre. Showcasing the very best of the comic book industry via retailers, guest artists, writers and independent creators.
6. Spot butterflies at Studley Grange Butterfly World and Craft Village and marvel at many other amazing animals including meerkats, otters, goats and a friendly raccoon.
7. Make friends with the residents of Cholderton Charlie’s Farm - Meet the chickens, pet the donkeys and place your bets on the pigs in the daily pig racing event. There’s also a soft play area to let off some steam and new for 2016 is a Tree Top Trail and Fairy Garden.
8. Choose from over 600 courses and an array of eclectic entertainment at Marlborough College Summer School. Weekly courses run (Mon – Fri) from 12 July – 8 August and are great for families from junior troopers (age 3+) to adults. The comprehensive course schedule offers something for everyone - including football camp, survival courses, metal detecting and dog agility. New adult courses include rural skills, teddy-bear making, archaeology, brewing and learning the accordion.
9. Create your own clay masterpiece at a pottery workshop on a visit to Eastcott Studios. Create your own pot, character mug or bowl or if you only have a few hours to spare have a go at painting a pot.
10. Play with 21st century realistic guns for laser combat in 11,000 square feet of unique combat areas at Virtual Warfare. Designed to offer the very best in gaming, combining amazing visual and sound effects offering a high degree of realism.
