Uncover Wiltshire's Secrets with Treasure Trails
Wiltshire’s timeless landscape provides a huge range of amazing places to explore.
From postcard villages and vibrant market towns and cities, to ancient landmarks, iconic white horses and panoramic views the county is among the most varied, enigmatic and intriguing in the UK.
There’s idyllic villages like Lacock, Pewsey, Aldbourne and Ramsbury, the ancient mysteries of Silbury Hill and Salisbury Plain, historic towns like Bradford-on-Avon, Chippenham, and Warminster and the medieval city of Salisbury.
One great way to have fun and uncover hidden secrets at these locations is with a Treasure Trail.
From a treasure hunt trail in Aldbourne, near Marlborough to a spy trail at Wilton Windmill there’s loads to choose from across the county.
Designed for ages from six to 106, there are no fewer than 22 Treasure Trails to choose from across Wiltshire. Enticing titles such as ‘Chippenham – Turnpike Treasure’, ‘Pewsey – Peasant Revolution’, ‘Great Bedwyn – Battle of the Butty’, ‘Warminster – Alien Portal Destruction’ and The Salisbury Murder Mystery Walking Trail.
The Trails cost £6.99 (plus P&P if required) and can be either sent in the post or downloaded online and printed immediately. They are suitable for groups of up to five and, compared to the average family day out at a theme park or visitor attraction, represent amazing value for money.
Lasting around two hours, the aim is to solve a set of fiendish clues on a circular route of approximately two miles.
There are hints every few minutes; incorporating plaques, signs, statues, monuments, images, engravings or anything else the Trail writers can make use of.
As well as providing a fun way to explore a new area, the Trails also offer the chance to see an area you thought you knew well in a totally different way.
