Spring into Summer in Salisbury
VisitWiltshire has compiled a quirky list of must-do events in Salisbury as summer approaches.
From cycle races and live music to art trails and gin festivals this vibrant city has something for visitors of all ages to enjoy throughout May and June.
On Friday 25 May there’s the chance to take a shopping trip back in time at the Salisbury Vintage Market. Running from 10-4 it’s an eclectic mix of vintage stalls, antique and bric-a-brac stalls from across the South showcasing some wonderful items from bygone eras taking place in Salisbury's Guildhall Square.
Enjoy live music throughout the day with Salisbury Live (4 May-1 June) with up to 100 acts in 20 venues across the city.
A season of themed Summer Saturday Special Guided Walks launches on 25 May with a ‘Pilgrimage in Medieval Salisbury Walk’. Running until September the walks cost £7 for adults and £3.50 for children with topics including the Magna Carta, Wartime Salisbury and Horrible History. On Wednesday 30 May visitors to Salisbury Cathedral will have the chance to create their own dove collage as part of the spectacular ‘Les Colombes’ exhibition by Michael Pendry which features 2,500 folded white paper doves suspended high above the Cathedral Nave.
A Collage of Cooing Doves is free and suitable for ages 3-10 years when accompanied by their parents. All materials are provided. For the more adventurous there will be an opportunity to make an Origami dove.
Explore Stonehenge in search of Doug and Hognob in the Early Man Quest running from 26 May–3 June.
Running from 30 May to 3 June The Spring Into Summer Festival is centred round St Thomas's Church and House and features state of the art flower displays, paintings, sculpture and music. For those who like to be creatively active there are workshops including Chinese brush painting, pottery or how to write a novel.
There’s a spectacular celebration of cycling on Thursday 31 May with the staging of the Grand Final of the OVO Energy Tour Series. There will be lots of family-friendly free events and activities from 1pm before Britain's leading televised cycle race series sets off on a 1.2km city centre circuit at 6pm.
Salisbury Art Trail (2-17 June) is a two-week week event organised by Plain Arts Salisbury where local artists from Salisbury showcase their works to members of the public.
On 8 June there’s a treat for the taste buds with Foodie Friday. It’s the perfect excuse to ditch the boring lunch box and enjoy fabulous street food from across the South West. There will also be live music and stalls offering a variety of food and drink you can take home and enjoy.
The UK's biggest Gin Festival Tour arrives in Salisbury on Saturday 23 June. Based in Malthouse Lane, The Great British Gin Festival features over 100 different gins from around the world alongside cocktail demonstrations, talks and presentations, trade stands and even a Virtual Reality Gin Distillery!
Taking place from 25 June to 1 July just outside the city, The Daily Mail Chalke Valley History Festival is the largest festival in the UK dedicated entirely to history.
Set within 70 acres of an area of outstanding natural beauty in Broad Chalke, near Salisbury, Wiltshire, the festival offers a unique blend of talks, discussions and debates alongside interactive living history, through-the-ages encampments and stunning air displays to excite, entertain and educate about the past.
