Press Release 4 June 2019
Sallisbury Set To Host Armed Forces Day National Event
Salisbury is set to become the focus for British service personnel past and present as it hosts the national event marking Armed Forces Day on 28-30 June.
Armed Forces Day National Event in Salisbury will feature street food, military displays, army charities’ stalls, workshops and live music.
Most of the event will be hosted on Hudson’s Field but a major part of the celebrations will be a military parade through the city centre on the morning of Saturday, 29 June, which is expected to attract thousands of people to the city.
The three-day celebration also includes an historic fly past by a Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane from the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, a military village and fireworks display.
On Sunday there will be a record-breaking attempt to create the world’s largest human poppy.
Armed Forces Day is a chance to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community from current serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.
The celebrations also provide the ideal opportunity to enjoy a short break in the city which The Sunday Times recently named as the best place to live in the UK with judges praising it as a ‘divinely attractive and welcoming place’.
Superbly situated in southern England’s rural heartland, medieval Salisbury is the perfect fusion of ancient and modern.
Voted one of the world’s Top Ten Cities by Lonely Planet, it is the perfect destination for visitors with its first class arts venues, great shopping, museums, stunning gardens, historic architecture, quaint pubs and welcoming restaurants and cafes.
