Things to do in Salisbury
How much do you know about the medieval city of Salisbury? Let us enlighten and inspire you and tell you about things to do in Salisbury…
A visit to Salisbury would be incomplete without a visit to Salisbury Cathedral. See Europe’s oldest working clock, Britain’s tallest spire, the best preserved of the 4 surviving original copies of the Magna Carta manuscripts. If you have a head for heights then a tower tour is a must for spectacular views of the city and to learn more about the architecture and history of the Cathedral.
We have an award-winning museum – The Salisbury Museum housing many artefacts from Salisbury’s past including the Wessex Gallery featuring local archaeology of this rich landscape. Also within the Cathedral Close there is the Rifles Museum – a military museum dedicated to the Berkshire and Wiltshire regiment and Arundells, the former home of Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath.
There’s Mompesson House, a Queen Anne style house with beautiful courtyard garden under the care of the National Trust, and just two miles north of the city is Old Sarum, the original site of Salisbury.
Join Salisbury City Guides on a guided walk and learn more about the wealth of history or if you are interested in travel to Stonehenge then a trip aboard the Stonehenge Tour Bus is a must.
If you fancy guiding yourself around the city then why not look at getting one of the Treasure Trails guides to Salisbury? Or for something different why not try out the Salisbury Escape Room; Magna Carta Challenge?
Nearby there’s the magnificent stately home of Wilton House and not forgetting the World Heritage Site of Stonehenge, which is just 10 miles north of the city.
Salisbury is also a great destination for shopping, with regular markets, independent shops and some larger stores too.
