About
This September, English Heritage is offering cyclists the chance to pedal into history with the launch of their first ever challenge fundraising event: the Stonehenge Cycle Challenge. This monumental sponsored cycle ride traces the original 170 mile journey of the Stonehenge bluestones from their source, the Preseli Mountains in Wales, to the site on which they still stand 5000 years later.
Made possible with support from our sponsor Craghoppers, all money raised from the challenge will provide much-needed funding for the creation of a worthy visitor experience at this iconic World Heritage Site.
THE CYCLE CHALLENGE
Taking place over three days, from 13-15 September 2013, the picturesque challenge route will pass through some of Britain’s most beautiful countryside, including the Pembrokeshire National Park, the Brechfa Forest, and the Brecon Beacons National Park. On the final stretch through Wiltshire, participants will pass Marlborough, the source of the Sarsen stones that can also be seen at Stonehenge.
After completing their ride, weary cyclists will be rewarded with a celebratory glass of champagne in the centre of the stone circle. Suitable for varied levels of experience, the ride also includes plenty of refreshment stops, well deserved pub lunches, three nights in hotel accommodation and a return coach journey back to the start of the route.
