DragonSalisbury is one of the few cities to celebrate England's patron saint St George. Performers and entertainers help celebrate St. George's Day in Salisbury with festivities held on the Sunday nearest the 23rd April - this year Sunday 25th April 2010. Knights do battle, the Dragon is slain, and stilt walkers, jugglers medieval mummers and Morris dancers fill the Market Place in Salisbury. The leading characters usually include Hob Nob and Christopher the Salisbury Giant.

Plans to celebrate St. George’s Day in Salisbury well underway …

Salisbury has for many years celebrated St. Georges Day in style and 2010 is building on the hugely successful format of pervious years with activity across the city!

This year St George’s Day, the 23rd April, is on a Friday but to ensure that everyone can join in the fun, Salisbury City Centre Management is planning activities for Sunday 25th April, on behalf of the Salisbury City Council.

Gary Nunn and his Ticklish Allsorts team, the well-known local children’s entertainers, will again manage the event and are busy securing entertainers, acts, stalls and activity for youngsters of all ages!

The event is planned to commence at 11am with a parade of entertainers and acts, led by the Charter Trustees who will be out in their regalia.  The Mayor of Salisbury, Councillor Bobbie Chettleburgh will welcome everyone in front of The Guildhall.

Following the parade and a few words from the Mayor, there will be plays, enactments and entertainment from more than a dozen different acts. There will also be guided walks, craft stalls, a farmers’ market and lots more for all to enjoy.  There will be entertainment all day in the Market Place, Maltings and the Old George Mall so there is no need for anyone to miss anything.

More detailed information will be available soon and Salisbury City Centre Management wants to encourage everyone to get involved.  In particular it is asking that businesses consider competitions, staff and window dressing and special promotions.  They welcome all ideas and participation and ask that you contact the office on 01722 342872.

Please come and join the celebrations on Sunday 25th April

The event would not be possible without the financial support of the Salisbury City Council.  In addition major sponsors include the Old George Mall, and the Maltings shopping centre.
