About
Join Jennie Maizels - award winning illustrator, Southampton University Lecturer and creator of the Sketchbook Club social enterprise - at 7pm on Wednesday 18 October 2023 to discover why she believes anyone can draw, including you!
Attendees will discover why the 'Maizels Method' is the subject of a major research project at Winchester University exploring the benefits of creating artwork well beyond your perceived ability, and the empowerment and euphoria that brings.
"Drawing is the only creative pastime that we have left behind in childhood. We knit, we sew, we bake and we play music – we even colour in – but somewhere along the line, we have been led to believe that drawing is a God-given talent and completely unachievable. My core belief is that if we treat art like all the other pastimes and follow recipes or instructions, we can ALL draw." Jennie Maizels
This talk will delve into the physical and mental benefits of developing lifelong mindful hobbies and habits. Jennie will also explain how recent research highlights that is not only the act of creating that is beneficial, but also the quality of your creation. You will find out why creating your own masterpiece can be so empowering and enormously mood enhancing.
"I do not subscribe to the 'it doesn't matter what it looks like' school of thought. You wouldn't say 'it doesn't matter what it tastes like' when cooking!" Jennie Maizels
Discover how the 'Maizels Method' teaches amazing techniques, how to use a huge plethora of different materials, how to create hand lettering, watercolour masterpieces and beautiful collages (and much MUCH more!).
