Salisbury / Salisbury and Stonehenge - what to do / Ideas for great days out
Steeped in myth and legend, with a history dating back over 5,000 years, south Wiltshire has no shortage of fascinating places to visit.
Two of the most famous, of course, are medieval Salisbury: the perfect fusion of ancient and modern; and the megalithic monument of Stonehenge: prehistoric, mysterious, unique.
But there is so much more to be discovered, from an Iron Age hill fort to a 14th century castle... a Roman villa to a haunted hostelry... a Saxon Abbey to a Georgian silk mill.
We have one of the oldest racecourses in Britain, as well as museums devoted to everything from local history to army flying.
South Wiltshire has some of the best landscape gardens in the country and with everything from farm trails to nature trails, rare breeds to rare artefacts, there is something for visitors of all ages to enjoy.
