If you enjoy shopping you'll be spoilt for choice in Wiltshire!
At the Swindon Designer Outlet everything's under one roof. The imaginatively restored GWR Victorian locomotive works contains all the familiar designer labels plus a wide choice of places to eat. There's even a play area for the children - and the 'STEAM' museum is right next door, so it makes a great day out for the family.
At the other end of the scale you'll find that Wiltshire's market towns are still full of those small, speciality shops - usually family run - that are becoming an endangered species elsewhere. Go to Bradford on Avon to browse amongst the galleries and antique shops. Shopping in Corsham includes the Martingate Centre, home to over 20 shops offering everyday supermarket essentials as well as individual items from local retailers. There is also a bakery and a restaurant/bar which welcomes children.
Don't miss the appealing little covered market at Devizes, or Marlborough's stylish, spacious main thoroughfare, a country town with a cosmopolitan air. On the site of a former woollen mill, The Shires Shopping Centre in Trowbridge is home to a diverse selection of more than 50 shops all on one level and undercover - and even includes the fascinating Trowbridge Museum.
Salisbury is full of character. Streets like Fish Row, Butcher Row and Poultry Cross reflect the city's heritage and old trades, while up-and-coming Winchester Street is the place for speciality shops. The Old George Mall is home to many favourite high street brands, including Marks and Spencer, while the Cross Keys Shopping Centre has many smaller outlets, as well as a branch of TK Maxx.
Nearby Wilton is another shopping mecca. The focus here is on the Wilton Shopping Village, an attractive riverside complex created around an 18th-century courtyard.
