What's New in Salisbury for 2019
Known as ‘the city in the countryside’, Salisbury was named as one of the world's Top 10 Cities to visit in 2015 by Lonely Planet. There is a wealth of things to do, events and places to stay to make the perfect visit.
There are new 2019 exhibitions at Mompesson House and Salisbury Museum. Mompesson House's 'Standing by my darling's side: A Victorian experience of life, love and loss' is a representation of Jinny Townsend's life through her diaries whilst she lived in Salisbury from 1859 until 1882.
The origins of photography exhibition at Salisbury Museum highlights the historical city of Salisbury through a series of photographs.
Salisbury Playhouse will produce the stage premiere of Agatha Christie’s The Mirror Crack’d from 15 February – 9 March with Susie Blake (Coronation Street) and Simon Shepherd (Peak Practice) leading the cast.
Salisbury Arts Centre has a packed programme of dance, visual arts, music, comedy and an expanded film programme that includes new, regular Silver Screen Wednesday matinee film classics such as West Side Story and Brief Encounter.
Make 2019 the year to pursue your passion for food at the Waitrose Cookery School. Classes cater for beginners and seasoned cooks alike, with courses to suit every palate. There’s lots on offer, from street food to Italian classics and bread-making to perfect pastry. Children can get involved too, with a range of entertaining workshops.
Rated Trip Advisor’s Number One thing to do in the city, Salisbury Escape Room offers a fun group experience. Become ‘cold case’ detectives find and test the evidence and escape from the series of rooms in 60 minutes using only your mind, logic and teamwork, solving all the puzzles and mysteries.
A great way to discover the city is by taking on the fun challenge of a Treasure Trail or Text Quest. The Salisbury Murder Mystery Walking Treasure Trail is self-guided. Download the Trail and then solve the clues set on buildings, statues and monuments to eliminate the suspects and discover whodunit.
With Text Quest you receive a text with directions and a clue. Reply with the right answer, then get the next clue. You can race against other teams or amble round enjoying the sights.
Explore a treasure trove of amazing artwork at Fisherton Mill Gallery, Cafe and Artist Studios - the largest independent art gallery in the South West. The relaxed and friendly café is a slice of foodie heaven in the heart of Salisbury.
This year also offers visitors even more with the return of the spectacular two-week Salisbury International Arts Festival running from 24 May – 9 June and the city, which is steeped in military history, is extremely excited to be welcoming the Salisbury Armed Forces Day on 29 June.
Taking place from 24 – 30 June just outside the city, The Daily Mail Chalke Valley History Festival is the largest festival in the UK dedicated entirely to history.
Set within 70 acres of an area of outstanding natural beauty in Broad Chalke, near Salisbury, Wiltshire, the festival offers a unique blend of talks, discussions and debates alongside interactive living history, through-the-ages encampments and stunning air displays to excite, entertain and educate about the past.
