Spend a day in the lovely old market town of Devizes. Explore with the town trail to find some delightful and individual shops. Look out for the Wadworth dray delivering 6X, Henry's IPA, Summersault, Bishop's Tipple and others to pubs around town and find out whether the brewery is open for a tour (www.wadworth.co.uk). The town has an excellent museum and a castle so you'll find plenty to do.

Spend a morning discovering the myths and mysteries surrounding this ancient stone circle. There is a museum, shop, restaurant, pub and visitor centre in the village.

West Kennet Long Barrow and Silbury Hill - approximately 8 miles from Devizes
These ancient landmarks take you back thousands of years to a time when men dug with antlers! The West Kennett Long Barrow is one of the largest Neolithic burial tombs in Britain dating back to 3700 BC. You can walk from Avebury through to the Long Barrow (just over a mile away) on a pleasant country route which passes Silbury Hill. This enigma is the largest man-made mound in Europe and covers a 5 acre site. It is now protected as a Site of Special Interest.

STEAM - in Swindon, approximately 19 miles from Devizes and 12 miles from Marlborough
STEAM is the museum of the Great Western Railway, where the atmosphere of the Swindon Works is recreated using sounds, real objects and world famous locomotives.

A wonderful country park with a magnificent lake (originally built as a reservoir for the Wilts & Berks canal) which is a haven for wildlife. Activities include a children's play area, pitch and putt mini golf, cafe, bird hides, nature reserve and a tree collection.
