If you are looking for a range of retail experiences, this shopping break could suit you well. It combines the quaintness of the smaller shops in the market town of Marlborough with the contrasting Designer Outlet in Swindon.
For this shopping break you could stay in Marlborough, or in one of the surrounding villages if you prefer a peaceful haven at the end of a busy day.

Marlborough
Marlborough's beautiful wide main street offers several very stylish shops selling quality clothes for men and women, as well as the main chain stores. There is also a wide range of gift shops, delicatessens, book shops and jewellers. Off the main street you will find smaller retail areas with boutiques, specialist shops and cafes and there is an excellent antiques market.
For those who are interested in the architecture, there are many Georgian buildings and a range of architectural styles which span 300 years.
Lunch is available here with a wide choice of venues.
If you have time and feel like doing something different in the afternoon, drive as far as historic Avebury, a World Heritage Site, (approx 7 miles) and walk round the famous stone circles and the delightful village.

The centre is housed in the beautifully renovated Great Western Railway works and here you will find a 110-store shopping heaven boasting all the latest brands, with discounts of up to 50 per cent. It's also the South West's premier visitor attraction and the largest covered designer outlet in Europe. Facilities include a themed food court and a fully supervised creche.
The Outlet is open seven days a week with late night opening on Thursday and Saturday.

You will probably find that you want to spend all day at the Designer Outlet, but if you would like to do something different in the afternoon without going too far, why not visit STEAM, the Museum of the Great Western Railway, which is situated next door. STEAM is a large-scale family attraction telling the fascinating story of the men and women who built, ran and travelled on the Great Western Railway. The atmosphere of the Swindon works - where many famous steam locomotives were built - is recreated using sounds, real objects and world famous locomotives.
