Day 1

Morning

The Peto Garden, Iford Manor - approximately 2 miles from Bradford on Avon.

This is an award winning, Grade1, Italianate garden created by Harold Peto between 1899 and 1933 on a steep-sided wooded valley set beside the River Frome.

During the summer months, a varied programme of concerts takes place in the gardens.

Or visit Lacock village - approximately 8 miles from Bradford on Avon.
This picturesque National Trust village is home to the 13th century Lacock Abbey and the Fox Talbot Museum of Photography (in season). There are several shops and a range of tea shops, pubs and restaurants. the village is a popular location for TV and film productions such as Harry Potter, Emma and Pride and Prejudice.

Afternoon

Bradford on Avon
The Town Bridge (credit: David Pegden)Bradford on Avon is a bustling market town close to the Georgian city of Bath. Built on a steep hillside, the rows of mill workers' cottages provide a picturesque scene and stunning views over the town. The Kennet and Avon Canal runs close to the town and you can walk or cycle the tow path either towards Bath (10 miles) or Devizes (13 miles). There are excellent cycle hire facilities by the lock at Bradford on Avon.

Refreshment is offered in a variety of coffee/tea shops, pubs and restaurants in the town.


 

Day 2

A day on a narrow boat on the Kennet and Avon Canal

Spend a leisurely and peaceful day on the water enjoying the wildlife (herons, kingfishers and buzzards are plentiful) and watching the world pass you by! If you decide to try the Caen Hill Flight of 29 locks near Devizes you'll certainly need more than a day!

Day 3

Morning

Old and New Wardour Castles - approximately 28 miles from Bradford on Avon and 15 miles from Warminster

Take a pleasant and easy walk (3 miles, 1 hour) from Old Wardour Castle, built in the 14th century, towards New Wardour Castle, built in the 18th century (this walk can be muddy in winter). Follow this link to download Walk 10 from our Walking and Cycling pages.


Take a picnic lunch or drive on to the afternoon's venue for lunch.


Afternoon

Stourhead House and Garden - approximately 15 miles from Old Wardour Castle

The Pantheon at Stourhead (image owned by Stourhead)This is a world famous 18th century landscaped garden set around an enchanting lake with magnificent trees, temples and grottoes. The Palladian House contains an outstanding library, works of art and furniture by the younger Chippendale.

Refreshments are available in the village and there is a restaurant, shop and plant centre by the main car park.
