4 January 2011
The start of 2011 has seen a boost to tourism in Wiltshire / Salisbury / other towns as the area’s tourism partnership, VisitWiltshire, has seen a growth in potential visitors seeking information via its social networking pages on Twitter and Facebook.
Social networking sites have experienced phenomenal growth in the past year, and more and more people are discovering events and attractions of Wiltshire online. The VisitWiltshire website is also attracting greater numbers visiting the site, with over ½ million unique visits and 39 million hits to visitwiltshire.co.uk in 2010.
The numbers of visitors following VisitWiltshire on Facebook and Twitter has now exceeded 1000 on each – meaning that staff at the Salisbury based tourism organisation can now give daily updates on the latest news, event and special offers and boosting the profile of the county on the internet.
Bryn Jones, Marketing & PR Manager at VisitWiltshire says, “We’re delighted that we now have over 1000 fans on our pages on Facebook – a fabulous response to our investment in time to put the page together and keep it regularly updated.
“We’re also seeing many journalists follow our Twitter feeds as well, and with many of our stories are appearing as editorial coverage in some of the national newspapers and magazines.”
“Whilst our printed guides are just as popular as ever we’re increasingly seeing more bookings to our hotels and guesthouses being made on-line.”
