VisitWiltshire launches plans for a major campaign to promote Salisbury and Wiltshire

5 April 2011

Plans for a major campaign to promote Salisbury and Wiltshire and to attract thousands more visitors have been unveiled by VisitWiltshire.

The fresh new marketing campaign was presented in a launch for a new era for the tourism partnership that will see VisitWiltshire being transformed to a company limited by guarantee.

Plans also include marketing activity aimed at promoting the county to overseas visitors in the run-up to 2012.

Peter Wragg, Chair of VisitWiltshire says, “The launch of VisitWiltshire Ltd and the fresh new marketing campaign that the company will be undertaking to promote Salisbury and Wiltshire will see awareness of the area increase as over £1.5million will be spent over three years on marketing that will include advertising in London and the West Midlands and key towns that provide the source of day trippers to the county.

“Although we have always been a membership tourism partnership, forming the new company will mean that we will be a private-sector led organisation that can use our agreements with Wiltshire Council, and other sponsors, to drive more business to tourism operators and boost the economy with the extra income those visitors will bring.”

VisitWiltshire’s marketing plan for this year will see a powerful campaign using imagery of Salisbury, Stonehenge and other Wiltshire attractions used on London buses, radio spots, internet advertising and other media. The company will also be developing their websites www.visitwiltshire.co.uk and www.visitsalisbury.com
