VisitWiltshire, and the Tourist Information Centres located across the county, are supporting British Tourism Week by encouraging the residents of Wiltshire to discover the huge range of attractions and activities on their doorstep.
Amongst the events across the county is a Days Out Fair in Devizes on 14 March which will highlight the wealth of things to see and do in and around the popular market town.
British Tourism Week aims to raise national and international awareness of the size, value and importance of Britain's £114 billion visitor economy and its tourism industry. Locally tourism is big business, with visitors spending well over £780 million a year in the county, on nearly 11 million day trips and 1.6 million staying trips, and over 14,000 people are employed in jobs related to the industry. From well known visitor attractions to the smallest bed and breakfast thousands of visitors contribute to the Wiltshire economy every week, money that supports other businesses, infrastructure and culture for people who live in the county as well.
The fifth British Tourism Week takes place from 12 to 20 March 2011, and a host of events have been organised across the county to celebrate the importance of tourism to the British economy. A full list of the events can be found on the VisitWiltshire website www.visitwiltshire.co.uk/britishtourismweek. Amongst this year’s events is a free Days Out Fair to be held in Devizes Corn Exchange from 12.30pm – 3.30pm (last entry 3pm) on Monday 14 March where visitors can find out from local attractions what’s new for 2011, pick up leaflets and enter a free prize draw.
As part of the week VisitWiltshire will be exhibiting at Best of Britain & Ireland show, at the NEC, Birmingham where they will be meeting group travel organisers, coach and tour operators from Britain and across the world.
Great Days Out can be downloaded from the VisitWiltshire website www.visitwiltshire.co.uk and you can also get latest offers and news on-line on the VisitWiltshire Facebook and Twitter pages, or by visiting local Wiltshire tourist information centre.
