Wiltshire Hotel Launches Beginners Digital Photography Courses

13 July 2011

Mayfield House Hotel in Wiltshire has joined forces with professional photographer, Terry Hewlett, to offer digital photography courses for beginners.

These exclusive new three day courses launch on 30th October 2011 and will run monthly thereafter.  With prices for three days starting from only £379 for a single room, it’s an affordable way to learn a skill that will be beneficial for every future photographic opportunity.

The three day introduction to digital photography workshop will let participants into all the secrets and techniques the professionals use to produce creative and imaginative work.

Frank Segrave-Daly, owner of the hotel, and Terry, recognised that while practically everyone owns some sort of digital camera, many users do not really understand the equipment and how to create the best images, whether it is of a holiday, anniversary or just snapping away for fun.

Over the course of the three days each participant will enjoy an informal introduction to their camera and its capabilities combined with the opportunity to explore the beautiful Cotswold countryside.  In this stunning scenery each participant will be putting into practice and further developing, the skills they have been taught.

The course is suitable for anyone who owns and uses a digital camera whether it is a compact, point and shoot or a DSLR.

The programme will combine tuition and practical demonstrations with the areas of photography covered including:

  • What do all the buttons and numbers mean on your compact?
  • Composition and seeing the picture
  • Improve family portraits and how to light for impact and control
  • Tips and tricks the professionals use
  • Working to improve your landscapes

The cost of the course includes passes to Westonbirt National Arboretum, home of one of the most spectacular tree collections in the world.  With the first course taking place in the autumn the colour at Westonbirt will be truly spectacular, with the maples and Acers providing a kaleidoscope of colours.

Other nearby Cotswold treasures include the Cotswold Water Park, Bibury Saxon Church and Arlington Row’s cottages, each providing different aspects for creative imagery.

Also local and ideal for scenery is the National Trust village of Lacock or the beautiful gardens of Hidecote Manor.  For ornithology photography, the Slimbridge Wetlands Trust provides ample opportunities to capture birds in their natural habitat.

At the end of the course, each participant will have an opportunity to have their images assessed by a professional photographer who will provide constructive guidance on how to improve them.

The three day break launches from Sunday 30th October with prices starting from £379.

The price includes all accommodation, tuition, complimentary entry into Westonbirt, an a la carte dinner in the Mayfield AA Rosetted restaurant each evening and a fine Cotswold Breakfast each morning.   The courses are restricted to a maximum number of 10 delegates, allowing for as much one on one time as possible.
