Salisbury heritage and Magna Carta anniversary

Salisbury Heritage & Magna Carta 800th Anniversary

Salisbury: One of the World's Top 10 Cities for 2015

Salisbury has recently been declared one of the Lonely Planet's Top 10 Cities in the Best in Travel for 2015. There will be a lot of focus in 2015 on Magna Carta, which celebrates its 800th anniversary. Magna Carta celebrations will be focused on Salisbury Cathedral, which houses one of the best preserved copies of the document within its Chapter House. Magna Carta 2015 events will include a brand-new exhibition and a Magna Flora Flower Festival.

Days out and things to do

Salisbury is a great base for a whole variety of exciting days out. Visit our outstanding range of stately homes like Arundells or Mompesson House (both within the Cathedral Close); take a stroll around our beautiful parks and gardens; unearth the secrets of the past at one of our world-class museums.

Salisbury is well located for visiting the World Heritage Site of Stonehenge, just 10 miles north of the city. Make your own way to the stones or for a more intimate experience, take a Magical History Tour which includes a visit to Stonehenge, Old Sarum and the medieval city of Salisbury.

Discover its wide range of independent shops including Fisherton Mill offering unique and unusual items combined with great service. The big high street names are also here, and if you visit on a Tuesday or Saturday you can enjoy the hustle and bustle of Salisbury’s historic Charter Market.

If you are looking for places to eat then you'll be in for a treat as there are many types of restaurant and an excellent range of pubs to head to. And don’t miss our fantastic Food & Drink Festival which takes place in September.

There’s a wide variety of evening activities around the city, from cinema and theatre to pubs, clubs and restaurants, while the thriving music scene encompasses everything from pop, folk and jazz through to classical and world music particularly at City Hall or during the Ageas Salisbury International Arts Festival. Thanks to its great range of entertainment the city has been awarded Purple Flag status – the ‘gold standard’ for a great night out. See our what's on pages for further details.

Make a break of it and stay in Salisbury in 2015

As well as a range of comfortable hotels, we have cosy bed and breakfasts, well-equipped self-catering properties, friendly campsites and quirky alternative accommodation – whatever you choose you are sure to sleep soundly and wake refreshed for the day’s activities.
