Romantic Weekends in Salisbury

For a great romantic weekend destination, consider Salisbury. There are plenty of romantic things to do and places to stay here so if you are looking for the ultimate way to woo your significant other then take a look at some of our romantic weekend ideas here.

Here are some of our suggestions for romantic things to do on a weekend to Salisbury…

  • Join Salisbury Cathedral for one of their Tower Tours and enjoy spectacular views over the city from the top of the tower. Not only will you discover much of the Cathedral’s history along the tour but you will also get to see behind-the-scenes of some of this iconic building. Plus, the Tower Tour is the scene of many a romantic proposal!
  • Stroll along the Town Path together from Queen Elizabeth Gardens to the Old Mill at Harnham and see scenes from where Constable painted his masterpiece of the cathedral. Expect wonderful views across the water meadows, and perhaps even the flash of a kingfisher darting by. You can enjoy a glass of wine or perhaps a spot of food at the Old Mill whether inside the historic pub or in the pretty garden.
  • Look out for relaxed jazz brunches at Fisherton Mill and enjoy music and food in this unique gallery or perhaps pick up a piece of art to treasure.
  • Make the short journey to Wilton House (around 3 miles outside of Salisbury) and see where scenes from the Blockbuster film, Pride & Prejudice were filmed. The gardens here are romantic in themselves with roses, an arboretum, Japanese bridges and pretty water features. Grab a picnic and rest up on the lawns overlooking the magnificent house.
  • Book onto an inner circle tour at Stonehenge at dawn or dusk, for spectacular big skies in this iconic World Heritage Site. Pre-booking is needed for this magical event.
  • Be whisked away on a chauffer-driven private tour of Wiltshire with Heritage Holidays or by using one of our local hire companies. You can even tour Salisbury Plain by 4x4 with Salisbury Plain Safaris.
  • Come in the lead up to Christmas to the Salisbury Christmas Market and enjoy twinkling lights, festive music and some great shopping. You’ll often find a stall selling warming mulled wine and festive snacks too.
  • Travel to nearby Tisbury and enjoy a visit to the romantic ruins of Old Wardour Castle followed by afternoon tea at nearby Beatons Tea Rooms or lunch at the Beckford Arms (this is where Jonny Depp stayed whilst filming Chocolat nearby).
  • Book a table at one of our award-winning restaurants. Whether you fancy sampling contemporary cuisine at Anokaa or perhaps the historic and romantic atmosphere at the Haunch of Venison.
  • Look out for some great events occurring in and around Salisbury too. From intimate plays at Salisbury Playhouse to concerts and performances as part of the Salisbury International Arts Festival.

Romantic places to stay on a weekend in Salisbury

Make a break of it and stay for a couple of nights. Here are some suggestions on where you can enjoy a relaxing, romantic stay but don’t forget to check out our other accommodation listings too:

  • Check into the four-star Milford Hall Hotel, with the on-site Lime Tree Spa. Book a couple’s treatment or simply relax in the hotel’s spa facilities.
  • Stay in your own quirky glamping pod and enjoy modern comforts beneath the stars
  • Enjoy riverside views looking towards Salisbury Cathedral across the water meadows from the Legacy Rose & Crown Hotel or the Grasmere House Hotel, both in the Harnham area of Salisbury
