Wiltshire will be a buzz of activity this summer and bank holiday weekend with a wide range of events and festivals taking place throughout the county. Its strong connection with the past makes it the perfect place to enjoy the present with family and friends. It’s the ideal location to let time stand still and take in the beautiful surroundings within an ancient landscape.
Charming historic market towns with independent shopping and pictures villages featuring a range of quality accommodation. There are award-winning restaurants, pubs and cafés plus major attractions, events, arts, culture and entertainment, all at the heart of a Wiltshire experience.
VisitWiltshire has highlighted some timeless pleasures, Fun Family Events and Festivals for visitors to the county over the summer and bank holiday weekend.
Summer Spectacular in Salisbury will take place on Saturday 22 August from 2pm – 10pm. This free family event will include live music, arena displays, motorcycle display team, hot air balloons, fireworks, funfair, craft village, food and drink stalls and so much more! Devizes International Street Festival will take place on Sunday 30 and Monday 31 August. This free, two day large family event, features some of the very best street performers, contemporary circus acts, dancers, musicians and walkabout shows from across the UK and Europe. Throughout both days there will be an array of delicious food, drinks, including licensed bars, and crafts available from festival stalls. The Edington Music Festival taking place from Sunday 23 August – Sunday 30 August, celebrates its 60th anniversary this year and is one of the oldest annual sacred music festivals in the world. This free festival is one of England’s unique, understated gems with up to 90 choristers and organists from cathedrals and colleges all over England, who will assemble in the little village of Edington to sing four services a day in the 12th century Priory Church. The Castle Combe Cycling Festival and Severn Bridge Sportive will take place on Sunday 30 August. The Family Cycling Day runs alongside the Sportive and enables riders of all ages and abilities to enjoy the smooth, traffic free tarmac of the iconic race circuit. Gurston Down Speed Hillclimb is two days of Britain’s best motorsport action against the clock, taking place on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August at Gurston Down, Broad Chalke near Salisbury. Not to be missed are the thrilling British Hillclimb Championship (BHC) ‘Top 12 Run Offs’; these BHC points-scoring shoot outs will bring both Sunday’s morning and afternoon sessions to nail-biting finales. Practice from 8.30am both days, competition on Sunday from 10.30am. Adults £6 Saturday, £10 Sunday, accompanied under 15s free. For further information www.gurstondown.org
Malmesbury Festival of Food and Drink will take place on Sunday 30 August from 10.30am – 3pm. Petticoat street market will feature additional stalls showcasing local produce. The Corsley Show in the rural village of Corsley, 3 miles west of Warminster, takes place on Monday 31 August from 10am. Visitors can enjoy some fantastic events in the main arena including children’s sports, dog agility, tug o’ war, Garrison Artillery re-enactment, hawk displays and much more. In addition there is a horticultural and craft marquee, fairground rides and a horse and pony show with show jumping and dressage plus a dog show with obedience and novelty classes.
