About

THE DRIFTERS + DIRECTOR Q&A
Directed: Ben Bond (UK, 2021)
Certification: 12 | 1 hour 31 minutes | Romance, Drama | Language: English

The Drifters is the debut feature film from local writer and director Ben Bond who is coming to Trowbridge Town Hall for a Q&A session after the screening of his film!

The Drifters is the debut feature film from local writer and director Ben Bond (Skins, Killing Bono). It received its World Premiere with official selection at the 43rd Mostra in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and has since gone on to delight audiences and critics around the world. A quartet of rising stars head the cast: Lucie Bourdeu (Kings For A Day), Jonathan Ajayi (Noughts and Crosses, Wonder Woman '84), Tom Sweet (Childhood Of A Leader) and Ariyon Bakare (Star Wars: Rogue One, His Dark Materials).

Two young drifters dreaming of the future meet in London. Koffee, a West African, has spent most of his life on the run. Fanny, a French girl, has a troubled past and dreams of finding Quentin Tarantino to kick start her acting career. They both decide to go to America and make a fresh start.

Koffee comes under pressure to take part in a motorcycle heist in return for a stolen passport and his freedom. After the heist goes wrong, Koffee escapes to the beach with some stolen jewellery and a gun. Fanny goes with him, not knowing about his part in the robbery.

At the beach, they get to know each other over a few days while Fanny decides if they are in love and will go to America together. Koffee knows he may only have a few days of freedom left before the events of the robbery catch up with him. He chooses to spend them living just how he wants, and this means being with Fanny – whatever the cost.

Filmed between London and the coastal town of Teignmouth, Devon, the Drifters take elements from the French New Wave and it has been reviewed as a post-brexit love story.

"This is highly articulate film making that takes time to build characters without breakneck visuals and rushed dialogue; an absolute treat.." – UKFILMREVIEW.CO.UK

About The Drifters Director, Ben Bond:
Bond started out producing DJs Pete Tong and Trevor Nelson for BBC Radio 1 working with recording artists such as Sean Combs, Dr. Dre and Mary J Blige. He has since written for BAFTA-winning youth TV drama series SKINS (Channel 4/Netflix) and the movie Killing Bono for Paramount and directed some of the most successful commercials on TV for brands including Coca-Cola, Virgin Atlantic and Secret Escapes.

As a writer and producer, his films have been shown at Sundance, Toronto, London and Berlin and won numerous awards around the world including prizes at Rhode Island, Los Angeles Film Festival, Aesthetica and The Friars Club in New York.

He is the executive producer on The Hungry (Toronto 2017) and Say your Prayers (2020). The Drifters is his feature directorial debut.
