Since their formation in 2007, Empirical have honed a reputation as risk-takers, built on the quartet's complex compositions and free-ranging improvisational style that "flirts with nostalgia while living on the edge of experimentation" (Jazzwise). Returning to WMC to open our Spring Summer season, the trailblazing jazz quartet will preview a collection of new pieces set for release in March 2022. Written by each individual band member in isolation during lockdowns throughout the pandemic, the music reflects the desire and joy to perform and improvise together as a collective.
