About

Emily Young's 'The Sun King Dreams of Peace' (Bronze) 2024

Britain's greatest living stone sculptor Emily Young's largest bronze casting of 'The Sun King Dreams of Peace' at Glove Factory Studios.

We are delighted to invite you to an evening viewing of Emily Young's 'The Sun King Dreams of Peace' (Bronze) sculpture, followed by a light Spring supper at Wild Herb at The Field Kitchen.

The Sun King Dreams of Peace, the largest bronze cast by Emily Young to date, is in the last stages of fabrication at Wolf and Stone Foundry in Dorset by Anthony Stone. Emily and Anthony are working closely on the finish of this monumental sculpture, using heat and chemical patination techniques to create colour and variation which speaks some of the same language of the stone original whilst echoing Emily's interest in the age and history of materials.

The installation of The Sun King Dreams of Peace (Bronze) at Glove Factory Studios will be the first time a large bronze by Emily Young has been displayed anywhere in the world.

Join us for a relaxed evening, beginning in the courtyard with a welcome drink and nibbles, before walking out to admire Emily Young's sculpture in the landscape then returning to the canopy to enjoy a delicious Spring supper prepared by the talented team at Wild Herb at The Field Kitchen.

Born into a family of writers, artists, politicians, naturalists and explorers, Emily Young left London in the late 60s and spent the next years travelling widely, studying art and culture.

As a young woman, she worked primarily as a painter, studying briefly at Chelsea School of Art, Central St Martins in London and Stonybrook University, New York.

In the early '80s Emily Young started carving stone, preferring to use discarded materials from abandoned quarries.

Emily's approach invites the viewer to comprehend a commonality across deep time, geography and cultures – her major preoccupation is humankind's troubled relationship with the planet. The use of traditional carving skills allied with technology where necessary, allows her to produce timeless works which marry the contemporary with the ancient.

The primary objective of Emily's sculpture brings the relationship of humankind and the planet into closer conjunction.

We look forward to welcoming you to see for yourself how Emily Young's work manifests a unique, serious and poetic presence in the landscape at Glove Factory Studios.

Welcome drink and nibbles on arrival are complimentary.

Once you've had the pleasure of taking in the exhibition of Emily Young's work around the courtyard, Club Room, and in the field, you may take your seat in the canopy and enjoy a seasonal light two-course supper prepared by the talented team at Wild Herb at The Field Kitchen.

Let us know at the time of booking if you have any dietary requirements or if there are any guests you'd like to be seated with, thank you.
