About
Serenata are a family group of classical guitarists who give frequent concerts in churches and halls around southern England.
Members of the trio are; Cobie Smit (Mills) who studied at the Rotterdam and Den Haag Conservatories in Holland, and has concertized in Europe, SE Asia, Canada, Australia and New Zealand; Richard Mills, who took up the guitar in his late teens after studies on 'cello, oboe and bass guitar, attending the Edvard Grieg Academy in Norway; John Mills, a former pupil of John Williams and the legendary Andres Segovia, who in addition to over 60 years of recitals, has given numerous broadcasts in many countries and for the BBC here in the UK.
The programme for West Lavington Village Hall on 13th June includes music by Haydn, Vivaldi, Ravel, Faure, plus pieces from South America. Of added interest is that especially for this event, no fewer than three guitars all by Wiltshire makers will be featured – John Mack from Burbage and later Marlborough, Alastaire McNeill from Nettleton, near Chippenham, and Gerald Kerr, who as a Squadron Leader was one of the last spitfire pilots in WW2., and who then turned to his other passion, making guitars in Salisbury.
