About
'You make a living by what you get; you make a life by what you give.' This quote gets to the heart of why people volunteer, say David Reeves of the Health and Wellbeing Forum and a serial volunteer himself.
Volunteering is a key contributor for the economy; for our own and others' physical and mental health and wellbeing; in creating a sense of connection to others; and in making new friends and colleagues. There are as many volunteering roles as there are types of employment – and volunteering can be great way to gain confidence before moving to paid employment for the first time or after a career break. From trustees to admin; from social media support to counselling and befriending; from community services to sports coaching; from working in a food bank to being a community DJ; the list is endless – so where do you start?
A good way place to start is by attending the Valuing Volunteering Fair being held on Saturday 1 June 2024 at the Civic Centre, Warminster from 10.30-12.30. We have nearly thirty organisations of all types for you to speak to – without pressure – about the wide range of possible roles. Entrance is free as is a cuppa and a biscuit.
