With Summer coming to an end, and the rich autumn glow lights up the picturesque landscape across the county, there’s plenty to enjoy when visiting this month. From nature walks to annual exhibitions, historic days out to flying displays, here’s our top things to do in Wiltshire this September!

Heritage Open Days in Wiltshire

Taking place every September is National Heritage Week. From 11th – 20th September this year, volunteers across Wiltshire organise events to celebrate the county’s fantastic history and culture. Make the most of this event by stepping back in time, inside some of Wiltshire’s most historical properties, destinations and landmarks.

Mompesson House

Enjoy free entry to Mompesson House and Garden from 11am to 4pm on the 14th-16th September. Join many others in celebrating the 30th anniversary of the filming of Jane Austen’s Sense & Sensibility. You will be shown inside the doors and drawers of some of the incredible collection items throughout the house, with access to the garden, second-hand bookshop and tearoom all accessible with this free entry.

Bradford on Avon Lock Up

This National Heritage Week, Bradford on Avon will be opening their 13th Century Lock Up. Located on Bradford on Avon town bridge, this Heritage Open Day offers visitors the exciting opportunity to view the town’s historic jail, which was originally used to lock up town drunks for the night before being taken to see the magistrate in the morning!

Icons of the Sky is taking flight this month at Longleat! This all-new festival sees 3 days of breath-taking flying displays and balloon launches. Highlights include two mass hot air balloon ascents, 2 breath-taking hours of exhilarating aerial displays, fireworks and much more!

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first Drive-Through Safari opening outside of Africa, Longleat will be welcoming the RAF Red Arrows on launch day, where they will be performing a special flypast to commemorate this historic achievement.

Car Park Fiesta, Wiltshire Music Centre

After last year’s super-successful inaugural outdoor fiesta, Wiltshire Music Centre are inviting visitors back to the tarmac for a larger-than-life afternoon of live music, creative workshops, dancing, local food and much more!

Marlborough LitFest

Marlborough’s annual literary festival returns this year for their 17th event, offering 4 days of fun for all ages, with inspiring conversations, writing workshops, children’s activities, poetry readings and much more!

Owls by Moonlight, Hawk Conservancy Trust

Starting this month is Hawk Conservancy Trust’s Owls by Moonlight event. This Autumn, venture out into the night and experience the mystical owls’ graceful, silent flights in and out the darkness in 2 enthralling flying displays!
