About

Having been lovingly restored and revived by The Great Durnford Estate, The Great Bustard offers an exceptional hospitality experience with hotel grade bedrooms, a cosy pub area, elegant private dining room, a treatment room, incredible restaurant and farm shop stocked with products from The Great Durnford Estate.

The 10 bedrooms, each with a boutique charm, are all designed as sophisticated retreats, with cosy wool or linen curtains which frame the windows, rugs atop oak floors and super king beds. There are two rooms above the pub area and a further eight across the courtyard in the elegant outbuildings, two of which are dog-friendly and one accessible with wheelchair access. Bathrooms are stocked with DURNFORD soaps, shampoos and conditioners. The rooms are best suited to adults and couples.

There is a light and airy restaurant headed up by Chef Jordan Taylor whose menus are dictated by seasonality and include more relaxed wood-fired pizzas and venison burgers, as well as more refined dishes using ingredients from the estate. There is a pub area with a stocked bar, fireplaces and wingback chairs to hunker down in. The on-site farm shop stocks organic produce plucked directly from the Great Durnford Estate; including fruit and vegetables from the kitchen garden, game from the Great Durnford Estate, DURNFORD products including organic face, body and home products made with natural ingredients, as well as freshly-made jams, chutneys, infused alcohols and oils all made on the estate. Outside there is a sheltered courtyard and ‘Little Bustards’ playground, with a slide and monkey bars.

The Osprey treatment room has been designed as a place to switch off with treatments designed in-house, including de-stress massages and holistic facials, using the new DURNFORD collection, which was created by the Great Durnford Estate team in collaboration with aromatherapist Annie Brown.

Road Directions

The Great Bustard is located in central south Wiltshire, in Great Durnford, three miles from the A303 with direct routes to London, Devon and Cornwall. Stonehenge is three miles away and we are six miles from the medieval city of Salisbury.

Directions for reaching us via car: Approaching from the north, via Amesbury, follow the A345 south until the White Railings Roundabout then take the second exit and an immediate right turn, following the road into Great Durnford. Keep going past St Andrew’s Church on your right and Jubilee Hill on the left and then The Great Bustard will be shortly after on the right. We have a car park outside and five EV chargers.

The Great Bustard is a 15 minute drive from Salisbury, straight up the A345 until high post where you turn left, and keep going all the way until Jubilee Hill where there is a right turn straight into Great Durnford.

Public Transport Directions

Directions via train: The closest station is Salisbury railway station, which is approximately 15 minutes away by car. The train takes 1.5 hours from London and local taxis from the station can be organised in advance.

Directions via bus: The closest bus stop is the Great Durnford Cricket Ground, which is a two minute walk away. The 8, X4, X5 and 201 routes all pass near Great Durnford.
