Celebration of the life of Valerie Jackson
26/03/48 – 10/08/2023
Valerie can be described as a vibrant, outgoing, kind, generous and very active healthy lady and was touched and liked by just about everybody that she had any contact with. She was the centre of the family and the go to person for help, advice or just a pair of ears to listen. What follows is a brief history of her life through various periods from childhood through to her passing, which was so unexpected and sadly a relatively quick end.
Let's concentrate on the good aspects of her life, the smiles, laughs and family treasures. There are so many of those.
She is probably known by a lot of Mums and Dads from Trowbridge, Being one employee at Adams Childrenswear from the day the shop opened to it's closing.
She was kind, thoughtful and generous full of life and energy, loving the nights out dancing and laughing to her hearts content. A keen badminton player, we played league badminton and entered tournaments for over 20 years until we both suffered from lower back issues.
Dearly loved by children, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, fondly called great nana banana and myself. She had a way that sparked the closest relationships with all the family and friends. She would talk to the dogs, babies when out walking and always had time for anyone for a chat or a laugh.
Diagnosed in November 2o22, an operation January 2023, which resulted in the removal of her colon, finding it was completely affected by cancer and sadly unable to remove all the cancer from around the membrane. A physcotic episode meant a 12-week spell in hospital late February and electro convulsion therapy to stimulate the brain back into gear. She wasn't eating or drinking but would eventually recover but nothing like the Val we know. With limited mobility she really did try to manage a recovery with regular exercises around the patio table but the 6-month scan revealed bad news and the cancer had spread. A second spell in hospital, with a diagnosis of weeks not months we planned her home coming so that we could make her as comfortable as possible with a view of the garden she loved so much.
We thank all the staff at the RUH, and our oncology nurse Amy who was so helpful and kind to Val. The Parry Ward and Stoma nurses.
Our final weeks we connected with Dorothy House and the district nurses and we are so grateful for all their work to making Val as comfortable as possible. Thankfully she was peaceful and painless.
At her wake we had a live band and dancing, her passion and from this came the idea for a charity event to raise funds for 2 worthwhile causes to help them continue the invaluable work.
