About
Between 28th February - 29th March, Ellie Thompson will be suspending a trio of puppet-like sculptures from the ceiling of The Museum of Bath at Work.
Thompson's predominantly hand-sewn skeletons, carefully constructed out of brightly coloured felt, explore schadenfreude and the emotion's potential for catharsis. Playful and cartoonish, each sculpture seems to either be fixed in a permanent free fall or stuck in suspension. Though they are motionless, they appear to be animated by their all-seeing yet unknowing eyes - extinct but not lifeless. Viewers are invited to connect with each character, at once laughing at its expense and sharing in its misfortune.
The museum, which champions Bath's legacy of craftsmanship, offers an exciting industrial setting for Thompson's sculptures. The resulting visual contrast is striking, emphasising a focus on craft and materials.
Opening hours: Weekends only during February and March (10:30am - 5:00pm)
