Walking Events taking place in Wiltshire
Throughout National Walking Month, there will be a range of group walks taking place across Wiltshire. With most events free to join, it’s the perfect way to explore the county’s countryside whilst staying active this month!
Beginner Walk for Over 50s, Corsham Park
Join the free community beginner walk for over 50s from Corsham, a welcoming guided walk through peaceful Wiltshire landscapes near Good Manors. Designed the be accessible and enjoyable for all, this route follows easy paths and quiet lanes, making it ideal for those new to guided walks.
Beginner Walk for All, Avebury Guided Walk
Join others on a beginner-friendly guided walk in Avebury, a welcoming outdoor experience set amid the rolling chalk downland, ancient stone circles and peaceful trails of the World Heritage Site. Led by a qualified and experienced guide, these walks are paced for comfort and sociability, ideal for walkers who want to enjoy the countryside, heritage landscape and sociable group atmosphere at an easy pace.
Walk of Life 2026
Walk 10, 16 or 26.2 miles from Wiltshire to Bath along the beautiful Kennet and Avon Canal at this year’s Walk of Life on Saturday 23rd May. Sign up to join hundreds of walkers stepping out onto the canal, all in support of Royal United Hospitals Bath.
Now in its 20th year, the Walk of Life has made a real-life impact for patients, families and our extraordinary hospital staff. Featuring a group warm up at each start line, a free lunchtime BBQ, regular refreshment stops, and a big celebration at the end with finish line photos! Will you step up to the challenge?
Self-Guided Walks
Vale of Pewsey
The Vale of Pewsey in the North Wessex Downs National Landscape is the ideal place for getting outdoors! There is an extensive rights of way network, across downland and farmland, through villages and along the Kennet & Avon Canal and there are lots of documented walking and cycling routes covering the whole area.
You can discover routes that take you to Wilton Windmill, Crofton Beam Engines, the Green Man, Jack Spratt’s Clock, Swanborough Tump, numerous nature reserves (including one National Nature Reserve), White Horses carved into the chalk downland, ancient hillforts and views like you’ve never seen before!

The Ridgeway
Stretching a total of 87 miles, The Ridgeway is a national trail and is commonly known as Britain’s oldest road, having been travelled on for over 5000 years! Starting in Wiltshire, The Ridgeway follows along chalk hills northeast from Avebury, through North Wessex Downs National Landscapes, and to the northwest of London. Embark on a self-guided walk this May and expect to see wide open views of rolling downland, surrounding archaeological monuments and forts as well as one of Wiltshire’s famous White Horses at Hackpen Hill!
Historical Walks
Bratton and Westbury White Horse Circular Walk
Beginning in the village of Bratton, this enjoyable and undulating walk, takes in fabulous views from the northern aspect of the Imber Range Perimeter Path, with an exciting chance to get close to the famous Westbury White Horse, one out of 8 in Wiltshire! From the superb vantage point at the Horse, Cherhill and Alton Barnes Horses can also be seen in the distance on a clear day.
Stonehenge
Available for small groups of up to 6, Oldbury Tours provide bespoke guided tours of prehistoric Wiltshire including Stonehenge and Avebury. With a combination of both driving and walking, be sure to take in the magnificent sites that make this county so famous! Iford Manor Walled Garden Tour
Book onto a small group tour of Iford Manor’s private walled garden. Seasonal delights away including an array of fruits, vegetables, cut flowers, planting and stunning topiary displays. As featured on ‘Saving Country Houses with Penelope Keith’ on More4, their glass houses provide an insight into the growing process at Iford Manor.
Visitors can also explore the Shell House, where an enchanting design created by Elizabeth Cartwright-Hignett using shells and glazed ceramics adorns the walls.

The Birds and the Bees… and Trees at Westonbirt
Spring is bursting into colour at Forestry England's Westonbirt, The National Arboretum, and this year they invite you to stop, look closer and uncover surprising secrets revealed by taking a closer look at the flowers. As you wander through the arboretum, you'll come across signs that explore why flowers look the way they do, and how trees have developed nifty tricks to for reproduction and ultimately, their survival.
