About

Fisherton Mill is delighted to welcome HapticArt to the Main Gallery with a vibrant exhibition of textiles, paintings and mixed media. This talented group of artists first met when studying Stitched Textiles at East Berkshire College in Windsor and have exhibited together for many years, always encouraging each
other to develop and move forward in their art. Both global and personal events over the last few years have given these artists the opportunity and
perhaps the need to reflect on their own lives, their families, the environment and the world that we live in. As artists this process inevitably feeds into their
work and who they are.

Having been brought up by the seaside, Gill Banks has always been inspired by the outdoors, primarily the coast, although walking in the countryside by rivers, lakes or waterways also gives her a sense of peace and the time and space to reflect. Gill trained as a textile artist but more recently finds herself working with acrylics, inks, pastels and collage.

Ticia Lever also finds inspiration in the natural world, exploring the fascinating forms that can be found in weathered rocks, particularly around the Cornish
coast. Ticia has created embroideries of birds using a number of styles and approaches. More recently she has been inspired by flowers, leaves and trees.
She especially enjoys hand stitching and the texture and colour that can result from working with a range of different threads and materials.

Sue Crook's inspiration comes from the history of places she has visited and more recently from England's very precious chalk streams. Sue uses both hand and free machine embroidery, often dyeing and screen printing her background fabrics, many of which are recycled. Sometimes she uses paper in her work: either simply stitched paper or combining it with fabric to produce her stitched sketches.

Meet the Artists - Find out more about the work of HapticArt by talking to the artists who will be in the Main Gallery on Friday 12 July from 11am - 3pm.
