About

Following an incredibly successful event in 2020, Sarum Lights is returning to light up Salisbury Cathedral this winter with all new content.

The family friendly light and sound experience will shine the spotlight on the beauty and splendour of our galaxy and planet and helps us contemplate our personal place in the universe.

Soundscapes combined with spectacular projections both inside and outside the Cathedral will immerse you in the wonderous beauty of our world from sunrise to sunset and reflect on the fragility of nature and our impact on it.

Admire the wonderous expanse of space, the power and might of the ocean and the delicate flutter of a beautiful butterfly’s wings… and much, much more.

The spectacular has been created by Luxmuralis and headed up by artistic director Peter Walker and composer David Walker. The team hope that the experience will capture the viewer’s imagination, using different light and music spaces created outdoors on the West Front, in the Cloisters and in the Cathedral itself to remind us what an amazing world we live in.

The light and music spectacular is also taking place during the final week of the UN Climate Summit (COP26), a timely celebration of the wonders of Heaven and Earth.

There are 15-minute allocated time slot for you to book on to and arrive within. These are to help reduce queuing. The whole event will take about 1 hour to view in full, depending on how long you’d like to spend in each ‘zone’. The event is fully accessible and wheelchair and pram friendly.

Please note that Salisbury Cathedral respectfully request the following:

  • Please wear a face mask, especially when moving around the space (our staff and volunteers will be wearing them).
  • Please take a lateral flow test before attending.
  • Please do not attend if you have any Covid symptoms.
  • Please be aware that guidance is constantly changing. The Cathedral will notify ticket holder of any changes and we recommend that you check their website for any updates before visiting.

For more information, please visit the Cathedral’s website where they have a FAQ’s page and more details about the event.
