About
A full day workshop exploring the medium of paint. The day will begin with a series of mark-making exercises that engage an intuitive, expressive and creative handling of line, shape and form.
Supported by a life model, participants will be guided beyond a purely representational approach to observational drawing. Informed by colour theory we will use the brush to think through ideas around mood, memory, the real and unreal.
In the afternoon we will be applying strategies explored during the morning session in order to develop a more focused and considered figurative painting that participants can take home. This workshop is an expressive, fun and creatively liberating introduction to the endless opportunities of paint. Suitable for all levels of experience.
Please bring a sketch pad (approximately 250gms A3 size) and a selection of paint brushes (different sizes and shapes). A selection of acrylic paints (Primary Colours plus Tinting colours of your choosing- for example, Crimson, Yellow Ochre, Ultramarine, Zinc White and Burnt umber) - System3 provide a good acrylic paint starter set; more reasonably priced paints can be found in shops such as The Range and The Works. We recommend that participants wear an apron, an old overshirt or similar clothing during the session.
