With Summer coming to an end, and the rich autumn glow lights up the picturesque landscape across the county, there’s plenty to enjoy when visiting this month. From nature walks to annual exhibitions, historic days out to flying displays, here’s our top things to do in Wiltshire this September!

Autumn Action Day at Castle Combe Circuit

Head over to Castle Combe Circuit at the beginning of the month for their Autumn Action Day! During this modified and performance car event, you can expect drifting displays, public track time, thousands of display cars, trade village area and much more!

Heritage Open Days in Wiltshire

Taking place every September is National Heritage Week. From 6th – 15th September this year, volunteers across Wiltshire organise events to celebrate the county’s fantastic history and culture. Make the most of this event by stepping back in time, inside some of Wiltshire’s most historical properties, destinations and landmarks.

Enjoy free entry to Mompesson House and Garden from 11am to 4pm on the 14th-16th September. Join many others in celebrating the 30th anniversary of the filming of Jane Austen’s Sense & Sensibility. You will be shown inside the doors and drawers of some of the incredible collection items throughout the house, with access to the garden, second-hand bookshop and tearoom all accessible with this free entry.

Behind the Scenes at Chippenham Town Hall and The Neeld

Usually off-limits, explore areas of the historical Neeld and Town Hall in Chippenham this Heritage Open Day. Learn about the fascinating history and find out more about the namesake Joseph Neeld, as well as the building’s architecture.

Icons of the Sky is taking flight this month at Longleat! This all-new festival sees 3 days of breath-taking flying displays and balloon launches. Highlights include two mass hot air balloon ascents, 2 breath-taking hours of exhilarating aerial displays, fireworks and much more!

For 2025, Longleat will be commemorating 80 years since VE Day and the end of World War 2 with Supermarine Spitfire features every day, plus The Royal Air Force will be bringing the world-famous RAF Falcons mass parachute team and Tutor T MK1 aerobatic trainer to the sky!

Celebrate 250 Years of Jane Austen in Wiltshire

Discover a range of regency-themed events and activities across Wiltshire this month, as locals and visitors continue to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth.

Celebrating Jane Austen at Bowood House & Gardens

Come to Bowood House from Monday 15th – Sunday 21st September, during the official Jane Austen Bath Festival, and find stories and objects which illustrate Jane Austen’s life and the period on display in their Exhibition Rooms. During this week, there will also be an interactive trail within the House, plus Jane Austen Afternoon Tea at Bowood Hotel!

Pride and Prejudice at Lacock Abbey

Celebrate Jane Austen’s 250th birthday with an outdoor performance of one of her best loved tales, brought to the National Trust grounds of Lacock Abbey by Illyria theatre company.
