About
Bowood House & Gardens is hosting a series of special events to commemorate 250 years since the birth of author Jane Austen. The Lansdowne family that owns and manages Bowood Estate shares a little-known connection to the world-renowned author. In 1806, the 2nd Marquess of Lansdowne was Austen’s landlord while she lived in Southampton, shortly before she moved to Chawton and began writing her most famous works.
Come to Bowood House from Monday 15th – Sunday 21st September, during the official Jane Austen Bath Festival and find stories and objects which illustrate Jane Austen’s life and the period on display in our Exhibition Rooms. Pick up our activity sheets and immerse yourself in the world of Jane Austen.
For this week only we are also offering 50% off our Day Ticket prices (on the day only at admissions) if you come dressed head to toe in Jane Austen era costume dress.
Interactive Jane Austen Trail
Friday 12th September to Sunday 21st September: Guests are invited to explore an interactive trail within Bowood House. Visitors will discover and learn about objects located in the house that illustrate the author’s life and the wider Regency period. The experience reveals how Austen shaped the novels that continue to captivate readers over two centuries later.
Celebrate Jane Austen with Afternoon Tea
Sunday 21st September: Join us for a Jane Austen–inspired Afternoon Tea to celebrate the 250th anniversary of one of England's finest authors. Delight in a classic tea selection of delicate finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones and dainty cakes, all served in the elegant Kerry Suite accompanied by live harp music evoking the feel and charm of Austen's world.
