About

All are welcome to join us for this extraordinary service as we journey through darkness into light and embrace the hope of Advent. See the Cathedral transformed by over 1,300 candles as we shift from total darkness into light in movement and colour, shimmering robes, haunting music and Advent scripture.

The service this year will be held on Friday 25 November at 19.00 (doors open 18.00), Saturday 26 November at 19.00 (doors open 18.00) and Sunday 27 November at 17.00 (doors open 16.00).

Friday: seats will be on a first-come, first-served basis in the Cathedral except for the Quire and Lower Presbytery, which will be specifically reserved for the Cathedral’s invited guests. There will be no other reserved seats except for Readers and Stewards involved in the service.

Saturday and Sunday: there will be no reserved seats except for Readers and Stewards, as before.

Wheelchair users and their carers please queue and once in the Cathedral, will be directed to a designated area in the South Transept. Frail walkers will be able to sit in the Consistory Court (once a queue number has been issued) and join their party, when they reach the entrance.

For all three services: Queue numbers will be issued on each night, to ensure fair access to the Cathedral. Please note that saving seats once in the Cathedral will not be permitted, so members of a group wishing to sit together will need to queue together. Please arrive in good time to be sure of getting in before the permitted capacity is reached. In any event, please be seated by 18.40 (Sunday 16.40).
