Join Carolyn for a half-day workshop that will consider the key elements involved in writing fiction set in the past.
Through a mix of presentation, discussion and writing exercises, the workshop will consider how you can place yourself inside the world of your characters and bring the past alive. Carolyn will discuss approaches to using dialogue and description in historical fiction and show how research can be a stimulus to creating stories with a historical setting.

Join us for an engaging author talk with award-winning novelist Carolyn Kirby, as she presents "Cannonballs, Corsets and Coal: an 18th century story in 8 objects". Inspired by her new novel, Ravenglass, Carolyn explores the Georgian era through eight intriguing objects, revealing stories of coalmining, the slave trade, tartan bans, and early consumerism. The talk includes an audience Q&A and the chance to buy signed copies of Ravenglass (cash purchase for preference but card accepted).
